Sega Ages Bringing Classics To Switch Beginning In Summer 2018

Sega FES 2018 Announcement

No details have been released on price, features or, most importantly, which games will be included on the cute device. The guesses were made under the assumption that SEGA would actually announce something worthwhile, but as stated before, SEGA typically doesn't have many exciting announcements during its FES events. A few moments ago the arrival of Shenmue I & II to PS4, Xbox One, PC was confirmed and now we have another surprise, as the company announced that a Mega Drive Mini retro console is on its way.

As promising as that sounds, the source interview linked appears to suggest that Sega is simply interested in distributing the AtGames Mega Drive Flashback which, per the review above.is not great. Both games will feature Japanese AND English voiceovers as well as options for modern vs. classic controls and a fully scalable screen resolution.

But there is now news that Sega is working on a shrunken down Genesis, something that could be called the Mega Drive Mini. Over 15 games will arrive on the Switch eShop this Winter in Australia.

These include company mascot platformer Sonic the Hedgehog, Thunder Force 4, Phantasy Star and more to be announced. It seems likely we'll see similar fare here, though that hasn't stopped me from maniacally daydreaming of seeing Skies of Arcadia show up on the Switch in this fashion (it absolutely won't).

Lastly, SEGA revealed that a new entry in the Sakura Taisen (known as Sakura Wars in the West) series is in the works.

As for this entry, all we know is that it will be set in Taisho era 1929.
