Sridevi wins Best Actress National Award posthumously

Among the four major categories, the late Sridevi remained the sole Bollywood recipient, posthumously winning the best actress award for her last film, crime thriller Mom.

The 65th National Film Awards have been announced with Bollywood film "Newton" emerging as the Best Film and music maestro AR Rahman emerging as the biggest victor.

The 65th National Film Awards were announced today.

"We are overjoyed to know that the jury has conferred the "Best Actress" award to Sridevi for her performance in "Mom". In the movie MOM, she played a role of a mother who avenges the rape and murder of her daughter.

Another late actor who was awarded was Vinod Khanna who was announced as the victor of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.


During the announcement, Director, Shekhar Kapur said he insisted to the rest of the jury that Sridevi should not be given the award only because she passed away. Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema. Adish Praveen won the Best Child Artist award for his role in the Malayalam film Kunju Daivam, and the Best Children's Film award went to Dhanak. In 2013, he won the State award for Best Actor for the films Artist.

Elated with the news about Ghazi winning the Best Telugu film.

"People reacted very well and I felt good about it", she had said.

Last year, Syam Pushkaran won the award for Best Screenplay (original) for Maheshinte Prathikaram. Tolet, directed by Chezhiyan won the Best Film in Tamil. It was also recognised as the best Odiya film. Singer KJ Yesudas won the award for Best Playback Singer Male for Poyi Maranjakaalam from Viswasapoorvam Mansoor and Shashaa Tirupati won the award for Best Playback Female for Vaan Varuvaan from Kaatru Veliyidai.
