Body found in Ohio in 1981 finally identified as Arkansas woman Marcia King Miami County Sheriff's Office
A 21-year-old woman who received the nickname after being found dead in OH in 1981, wearing jeans and a buckskin jacket with a Native American design, was revealed Wednesday to be Marcia L. King of Arkansas. The "Jane Doe" became known as "Buckskin Doe" or the "Buckskin Girl" because of that jacket. "She was wearing jeans and a fringed buckskin jacket with a Native American design". Her body was found in Troy in 1981.
Mike Ullery | AIM Media Midwest The Miami County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday that Jane Doe, aka "Buckskin Girl", has been positiviely identifed as Marcia L. King, 21, of Arkansas, following a almost four decade-long investigation.
She died of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. Furthermore, King was never reported missing, and little was known about her until Greg Bridenbaugh, a farmer on Greenlee Road, found her corpse.
The case remained unsolved for decades, but it "has remained assigned to a detective as an active investigation since the victim was discovered", the Miami County Sheriff's Office said.
But a break in the case came when investigators teamed up with the DNA Doe Project, a nonprofit founded in 2017, which analyzed DNA that had been kept in storage since 1981. It has been reported in the OH media that King's mother is now seeking to get her daughter's headstone updated.
The "Buckskin Girl" has finally been identified. The breakthrough came on April 9 during DNA testing.
The sheriff's office is now moving ahead with a homicide investigation.
"They requested that be respected", said Duchak.
Investigators are focusing on the last month of King's life. Although, until now, her identity was unknown, her grave receives visitors and the occasional spray of flowers. Speaking Wednesday, Miami County Sheriff Steve Lord said he has been in touch with the victim's family, who have been cooperative.
