Longford poised for significant tourism growth and jobs as new ‘Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands’ tourism brand unveiled
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called out Dublin Mayor Mícheál Mac Donncha in a Facebook post Thursday night, saying he should be ashamed of himself for his participation in an anti-Israel conference in Ramallah this week.
Deputy director general Rodica Radian-Gordon "expressed her amazement and deep disappointment at the fact that the mayor chose to participate in a blatantly anti-Israel event", the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier in the week, the Dublin City Council urged the Irish government to boycott Israel and expel its ambassador from Ireland over the killings of protesters in Palestine.
Israel had tried to block his entry through its airport. It said that the conference in Ramallah was "explicitly" against Israel and had taken place on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Interior Minister Arieh Deri ordered an inquiry Wednesday after Mac Donncha announced he was in the West Bank city of Ramallah for a conference after landing at Israel's Ben-Gurion airport.
Israel expects a "public and formal" response from the Republic to his conduct, it said.
The Palestinian Authority invited Mac Donncha and several other speakers to discuss the status of Jerusalem which the U.S and other recognised as the capital of Israel, which has enraged the Palestinians who want the city dived between themselves and the Israelis.
