For those who haven't, the news on offer is substantial, primarily because developer Bungie has finally revealed a name and even a release date for the game's newest incoming expansion.

Today Bungie announced Destiny 2's next expansion will be called Warmind, and will arrive on May 8 with the start of Season Three. A full reveal stream is planned for April 24, but in the meantime Bungie has updated its roadmap for Destiny 2. Warmind will be released on May 8th as part of the beginning of Season 3.

Numerous much-sought, changes to Destiny 2, which ironically make it more like the first Destiny, won't be launching until Season 4. Warmind will be the beginning of the game's third season of content through the end of summer and, according to the post, "will send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies".

The Destiny 2 Update 1.17 Patch Notes are out now, and we've got the lowdown on everything you need to know about this latest version of the game.

The teaser image shows us a Warmind, which is most likely Rasputin.

"We also want to bring back those exciting moments when you acquire the flawless weapon", the studio said.

Down the line, Bungie is planning this summer to bring back the daily bounty system, which diehard fans had been calling for to give players tasks to complete if they login every day.

In addition to the announcement of Warmind, Bungie is announcing changes to Crucible. To keep the community in the Crucible unified, everyone will see new arenas in matchmade playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, as well as the new weekly rotators that include Rumble and Mayhem.

How Bungie addresses this with those weapon slot changes, and how those changes impact the speed and fun factor of multiplayer combat, will have a big effect on whether Destiny 2 can reclaim the popularity and longevity of its predecessor.
