'Bihar made Gandhiji Mahatma', says PM at Satyagraha se Swachhagraha event

He addressed 20,000 "Swachhagrahis" (ambassadors of cleanliness) as part of the concluding ceremony.

Tuesday, April 10, marks the end of the centenary year celebrations of the Champaran Satyagraha and the Narendra Modi government is leading the celebrations through the "Satyagraha se Swachhagraha' campaign, which is aimed at achieving freedom from filth".

On this occasion, "Satyagraha to Swachhagrah" program the Prime Minister will address more than 20,000 Swachhagrahis at the Gandhi Maidan in Motihari.

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for a National Highways project for six-laning of the 70 km long section of NH-2, extending from Aurangabad in Bihar to Chordaha on Bihar-Jharkhand border at a function in Motihari. Historical places associated with Bapu and his life has been decked up.


During his visit to Bihar, later today, PM Modi will also launch several other projects in the state aiming to improve the infrastructure in the state.

The total project cost includes Rs 1,300 crore for setting up the factory at Madhepura and two loco maintenance depots at Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Nagpur (Maharashtra), beside building 800 locos. PM Modi will also dedicate the first phase of the Madhepura Electric Locomotive factory, a collaboration between India and France, to the nation. The Champaran Humsafar Express will run between Katihar and Old Delhi.

Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone for for doubling of Muzzafarpur-Sagauli (100.6 km) and Sagauli-Valmikinagar rail sections (109.7 km), flagged off the Champaran Humsafar Express between Katihar and Old Delhi and the first 12,000 hp freight electric locomotive assembled at the Madhepura factory.

PM will also inaugurate the 22 crore restoration work of Motihari. These plans will advantage the capital region, Patna and surrounding areas.
