Google Assistant Routines coming soon to supported devices

I've been pretty pumped about this, home assistants are at their worst when you get home and have to rattle off two or three different commands to get your stuff turned on.

The report further suggests that the "Routines" will be made available on Google Home along with the smartphones and tablets that are running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above. Since your Google Home device stays at home, Google Assistant will then send you a reminder on your phone once you reached the location, assuming your location services are on. For example, you could ask your Google Home to "Remind me to buy paper towels when I get to the grocery store", and it should pop up that notification on your smartphone when you get there. That's available free from the App Store. With a phrase or sentence, a series of pre-set actions will be triggered on your device and the other connected devices that are supported by Google Assistant.

There are some limits, it seems, however.

For now the selection of Routines offered by Google isn't the widest - essentially, there's just one ('Good Morning'). That's in contrast to asking Siri to remind you, as it asks which Starbucks you want to be reminded at. It can also be used to set reminders not related to shopping, for example, "Hey Google, remind me to drop the cheque off at the bank". There were a few hiccups along the path to get reminders to work on Google Home speakers, but that's a thing of the past now.

That's all likely to improve as time goes on, and as the Assistant learns to differentiate more accurately.
