After record delay, German leader says 'time to start work'
Angela Merkel has been voted in as Germany's chancellor for the fourth time, nearly six months since the national election, bringing to an end the longest power hiatus in the country's postwar history.
Chancellor Angela Merkel promised Monday to work for a strong Europe and said she's hopeful talks can resolve the standoff over US tariffs, declaring that "it's finally time to start work" as Germany's new government prepares to take office, reports AP.
Her Christian Democratic bloc (CDU/CSU) and Social Democratic Party reached an agreement last month to form another "grand coalition" government, after a months-long post-election stalemate.
"I accept the vote", Ms Merkel told the Bundestag lower house of parliament after the vote.
She received 364 out of 709 votes in the first round of voting - 11 more than required to gain an absolute majority, but also 35 fewer than if all the members of her next governing coalition had cast their ballot in her favour.
The new "grand coalition" of Germany's biggest parties emerged after Merkel's attempt to forge an alliance with two smaller parties collapsed.
Merkel listed internal security and European cooperation among the new government's priorities, as well as new challenges such as responding to import tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. But he said that the allies "are in a position to work constructively together and govern decently".

Kris Wilkes had never watched an NCAA selection show before - until Sunday. "We know the court", senior Matt Mobley said. The FBI also is investigating allegations that led to charges last fall against assistant coaches and agents.
Harry Kane facing six-week layoff
Kane sustained an ankle ligament problem for the third time in 18 months during Tottenham's 4-1 win at Bournemouth on Sunday. Winks' game-time at Spurs has been hampered by a persistent ankle injury, which he first suffered at the end of last season.

The main aim of the summit is to review ongoing efforts and accelerate action toward the "End TB by 2025" goal. Had we continued at with the same pace, it would have taken us another 40 years to achieve the target.
