According to the 2018 Rankings, the five healthiest counties in Virginia, starting with most healthy, are Loudoun County, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Falls Church City and Poquoson City.

New health rankings released today by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

Where you live influences how well and how long you live, new rankings show. "Most likely, the change is about what happened in the state overall, rather than what our individual county did". Orange County was ranked 15, and Leon County came in at 16. Lawrence County Ranks 70th in the state in overall health.

Taking third and fourth place are Saline and Faulkner counties. "Ironically we would rather focus on the health factor number".

The Delaware State Report reveals that in Delaware, 18 percent of children live in poverty, compared to the USA rate of 20 percent. Results are calculated for each county and compared within each state and against top-performing communities across the nation.

The report also notes Allen County's health weaknesses: Adult smoking (19 percent); adult obesity (29 percent); alcohol-impaired driving deaths (32 percent); and sexually transmitted infections (545.5 per 100,000).

The Buncombe County Family Justice Center (FJC) is an example of a community partnership that has been instrumental in The Rankings. But the county's rank of 83 percent of ninth-graders who graduate within four years is far below the rate of 95 percent for top-performing counties.

The lowest-ranking counties, in descending order, are Monroe, Carbon, Schuylkill, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Lawrence, Cambria, Fulton, Fayette and Philadelphia.

Census data supports the correlation: The median income in Rankin is $59,370, while in Holmes it's $20,800, the lowest in the state.

Let's look at children around the Capital area.

"We definitely look at this and see what areas we need to try harder on improvements", she said. "Quick solutions to the complexities of public health don't always fit desired solutions", he said.

Just like we get yearly check-ups.

A West Michigan county was named the healthiest in the state by a recent study.

Shaugnessy said the the SHIP partnership helps the counties accomplish more than they would have if they didn't work together.
