Margot Robbie in talks to play Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino's new movie

Margot Robbie

Deadline first reported in July that Tarantino had approached Margot Robbie about playing the actress Sharon Tate, who was murdered by the Manson Family.

The new film, titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will star Leonardo DiCaprio as "Rick Dalton" and Brad Pitt as "Cliff Booth", two men struggling to reclaim fame in an entertainment industry they don't recognise anymore. Dalton is played by Robbie's Wolf of Wall Street costar, Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will weave the real Tate into the lives of the fictional Rick and Cliff, who, in the movie, live next door to the actress.

With Robbie a near lock to join Pitt and DiCaprio, the next major bit of casting will be the actor selected to play controversial filmmaker Roman Polanski. This is also the time that Charles Manson sent his followers on a killing spree which included the pregnant Tate along with others in her house at the time.

Hype is seriously building for Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming Charles Manson movie, which he recently announced would be named Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Tarantino's previous films were released by Miramax and later The Weinstein Company.

The contours of the movie seem to be in place now, such that filming could start soon, with the movie having a release date by Sony Pictures of August 9, 2019.

As Deadline notes, the film will be similar to Tarantino's cult classic Pulp Fiction, as its set in 1969 Los Angeles, aka "the height of hippy Hollywood".
