Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced the public preview of Microsoft Teams in 2016

It has been exactly one year since Microsoft Teams first launched, and many organizations have since come on board with the chat-based collaboration tool.

The company shared today that over 200,000 organizations in 181 markets use Microsoft Teams, with customers including NASCAR, Macy's, and General Motors.

The number was disclosed while announcing new Teams features including instant language translation and Cortana integration.

Background blur on video-The ability to blur your background during video calls will allow other meeting attendees to focus on you, not what's behind you.

Unlike Slack, Teams unsurprisingly does not seek to dispense with corporate email, opting to integrate messaging with office apps (such as Outlook) as a collaborative tool.

With that so, Microsoft is also looking to advance the features of Teams.

Microsoft says that its new Direct Routing service will transform Teams into a "full voice service" that works for both calling and meeting room devices.

Automatically record conference calls- Microsoft Teams can now automatically record conference calls and transcribe it for you. You can now start, join or add people to meetings by giving natural language voice commands to Cortana, for one. Microsoft said it would include facial recognition in the future, so particular remarks can be attributed to the right person. It is created to work with Windows 10 Ink as well, and allows users to collaborate more effectively in meetings including interacting with other teams using a Surface Hub remotely. Additionally, she said, almost 70% of Skype for Business enterprise customers have begun using Teams.

The cloud meeting recordings capability will be available this summer, with the other features and functionalities to follow later this year, Wright said. It'll also let you share a live video stream, photos or screens from your smartphone. The company shared today Teams will pick up consultative transfer and call delegation and federation features.

Beyond the Surface Hub and internal devices, the Teams hardware ecosystem now also includes meeting room systems from HP and Lenovo; new desk phones from AudioCodes and Yealink; new conference room phones from Creston, Polycom, and Yealink; and new mobile phone stations from Plantronics.
