JK finance minister Haseeb Drabu dropped from Cabinet

A top BJP leader praised Drabu's role in coordination between the two parties and said he was often the bridge between the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre over a host of issues.

Governor NN Vohra has approved PDP's proposal of terminating Drabu from the council of ministers, an official spokesperson said, but it is not clear where the "dream merchant", one of the best economists from J&K who reformed the state budget significantly in his last three budgets, will land on his next assignment.

The business community in the Valley hit out at the finance minister for his statement, saying they (remarks) were far from the truth as the whole world recognised it as a political issue pending a solution for the last 70 years. The event was organised by Kashmiri businessmen in which ambassadors from 110 countries were invited.

The Opposition National Conference criticised Drabu's comments and asked the ruling party to explain his statements, Rising Kashmir reported.

"Jammu and Kashmir shouldn't be seen as a conflict state or a political problem, but as a society with social issues", Drabu had said at an event in New Delhi on Friday.

After Mufti Sayeed passed away, there were reports of cracks within the party.

Separatist Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik said Drabu's statement was aimed at distorting history.

National Conference on Sunday said PDP's "declaration" that Kashmir was not a political issue but a social issue was a shocking and shameful U-turn by the Party which, for years, sought support and votes primarily to help in the resolution of the political issue that has claimed thousands of lives and pushed the State into the throes of instability and suffering.

Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu resigned from his post after his comment that the dispute in the state was "not political" created a controversy.

But the storm raised by Drabu's statement didn't subside.

However, the senior minister who confirmed the development said Drabu continues to be a part of PDP.

However, sources said Mehbooba and those close to her didn't trust him and suspected him of being close to the BJP and RSS.

Reacting to Drabu's removal, Omar said Drabu paid dearly for his statement and it would be interesting to see who replaces him.
