The Philadelphia Eagles key to Victory the Running Game?

That's because, after quarterback Nick Foles' bad performance during the last two regular season games, I'm not exactly brimming with optimism and am wary of spreading skepticism, in case it's contagious.

- Rob Maaddi reporting in Philadelphia. Atlanta drove to the Eagles' 2-yard line before Mills broke up Ryan's fourth-down pass toward wide receiver Julio Jones in the end zone to clinch the win.

Devonta Freeman hauled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Ryan for a 10-6 advantage with 5:41 left in the second quarter. Scored 100-plus points in each of their 4 quarters in '17... The kick capped a third quarter dominated by both defenses.

Philadelphia running back Jay Ajayi fumbled on the Eagles' first series of the game, and the Falcons proceeded to move 59 yards in 11 plays capped by Matt Bryant's 33-yard field goal.

Philadelphia snatched control of the game by outmanning Atlanta in the trenches and took a five-point lead with about six minutes to play on a short field goal.

Blount's 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal gave the Eagles the lead, but Elliott's extra-point try hit the upright and bounced out. And the entire offensive line, but for one or two times the Falcons got to Foles, played exceptionally well.

Foles, who has thrown for 537 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions this season, will have to be at his best against an opportunistic Falcons defense that forced a pair of turnovers in last weekend's 26-13 wildcard win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Atlanta Falcons head into Philadelphia on Saturday as the favorite against the number 1 seed Philadelphia Eagles. It was Ajayi's second fumble in two games.

The Philadelphia Eagles hadn't made the NFL playoffs since 2013 before claiming the No.1 seed in the National Football Conference (NFC) this season. Obviously, the Eagles realize that no matter who they end up playing it's going to be a tough battle, but at least after defeating the Falcons as underdogs, Pederson's squad was able to make a huge statement about belonging in the postseason and there's nothing they would love more than to earn a trip to the Super Bowl with one more win. The Eagles will feel the injury to Carson Wentz on Saturday.

But this is a different team from those in the past.

So while the defense was vastly improved, particularly in the pass rush, the Falcons fell flat with the ball far too many times.

The New Orleans Saints travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings Sunday afternoon for the right to play the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game and the George Halas Trophy.

The Eagles are in the unprecedented position of being a home underdog in their first playoff game as the No. 1 seed.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be out to replicate their 30-9 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers from October when they visit Heinz Field again for a place in the AFC Championship Game.
