Patriots RBs Rex Burkhead Mike Gillislee not expected to play vs. Titans

Both Burkhead and Gillislee are out with knee injuries.

The Patriots will reportedly be shorthanded at running back for their divisional-round playoff matchup against the Tennessee Titans Saturday night.

The good news for the Patriots is that according to Schefter, last year's Super Bowl hero James White is expected to return from an ankle injury and play versus Tennessee. Branch and Burkhead both missed games down the stretch and seemed optimistic to play, but apparently need more time.

"After the [knee] injury, you never know what is going to happen", said Burkhead on Thursday. "So that's always in the back of your head". The 27-year-old, who practiced in limited fashion Thursday, has rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns this season.

The Titans have seven players on their inactive list for Saturday's game, including running back DeMarco Murray, who was ruled out for Saturday's contest two days ago because of a knee injury. He's appeared in nine games and rushed for 383 yards.

The Patriots will play host to the Titans at 8:15 p.m. ET. Prior to Week 16 against the Bills, Gillislee was sidelined for six straight games - five as a healthy scratch and one due to illness.
