Isareli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's six-day India visit to begin today; trade, defence high on agenda

They're also expected to review progress in implementing agreements on cooperation in technology, water and agriculture that were signed during Modi's visit to Israel in July past year.

Keen to strengthen bilateral relations "even more", Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu earlier on Sunday left for India along with the largest business delegation that has ever accompanied an Israeli premier on an overseas tour. "Both the dignitaries will be accorded a grand welcome".

In July a year ago, Modi visited Israel as the first Indian Prime Minister since the establishment of bilateral ties in 1992.

On Monday, he'll meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and call on President Ram Nath Kovind as well as attend an India-Israel CEO Forum Meeting. Bhaskar said the ties between the two countries have been expanding in the areas of agriculture, water, innovation, entrepreneurship development, space, education, culture, homeland security and defence.

Before embarking on the flight Netanyahu said that "we are strengthening the relationship between Israel and this important world power".

Some irritants in growing ties include the cancellation by India in March of a $500 million anti-tank missile deal with Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.

The two leaders will also lay a wreath, and sign the visitor's book at the memorial, official sources said.

Daniel Carmon, the Israeli ambassador to India, said that the Israeli-India ties would withstand any troubles. They will also visit the iCreate innovation campus and centre.

The Israeli prime minister will have a number of engagements in Mumbai on 18 January.

It said he will reach out to Bollywood in an exclusive "Shalom Bollywood" event.
