President Donald Trump listens during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington
At first the White House did not denythat the remark was made.
In 2016, in response to a question about then-candidate Trump's views on immigration and his intention to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico, Francis said a man with such views was "not Christian". The comments, allegedly made by Trump, have also prompted widespread accusations of racism and disrespect towards other nations.
At one point, Trump, according to two sources, said: "Why do we want all these people from Africa here?" We have Haitians taking care of the American elderly.
Initially, the White House did not denyTrump's racially charged comments, but Trump claimed today he did not utter such disparaging words during a recent meeting at the Oval Office. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, said he does not recall if the commander in chief specifically made that comment.
"If he thinks African peoples are dummy people, it's a lie, because with Africans they go through education, they study so hard, the parents pay so much to bring them to like Wichita State University and that money contributes to the system", Isa said. "We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful".
Botswana also said it had summoned the U.S. ambassador to that country, Earl Miller, to "express its displeasure" and had asked Miller whether Botswana "is regarded as a "s**thole" country". "We are now working to build support for that deal in Congress".
If Trump can use his vile brand of "tough language" about entire nations of people, he should be willing to listen when somebody throws words like "racist" and "ignorant" right back at him, right?
