"The late-night show joke which Couric describes is whether she explained View Everything occurs Live with Andy Cohen in 2012 that Lauer could "pinches me to the buttocks a lot". "The accounts I've read and heard have been disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it's completely unacceptable that any woman at the Today show experienced this kind of treatment".

"I had no idea what was going during my tenure or when I left", she insists. I think I speak for many of my former colleagues when I say this was not the Matt we knew, ' she said.

Couric said she was unaware of any incidents taking her place during her time on the program, where she worked as an anchor between 1991 and 2006. I guess I made [the joke] because it was, again, so contrary to the relationship I had with Matt which was respectful, and professional.

On the subject of Hoda Kotb's promotion to co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie, Couric enthused "I'm really happy for Hoda - I think she's a great person and her goodness shines through, I think the audience really likes her, and I think she and Savannah make a great team".

Lauer was sacked by NBC in November after the network received a "detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior", saying it had reason to believe it wasn't an isolated incident. "I think Savannah and Hoda, and the whole Today show staff took a really, very upsetting and incredibly troubling situation and were able to handle with a lot of dignity and grace, and I really applaud them all".

Lauer apologized in a statement a day later.

He later added, "There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions". "To the people I have hurt, I'm truly sorry".

What do you think about the woman changing her claims completely? "Yes, there were men, but I think they were all afraid of me!" Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul-searching and I'm committed to beginning that effort. I think that we're moving into that stage of the movement right now.

Couric is working on a six-part documentary series for the National Geographic channel called "Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric" and said one episode will focus on harassment women have faced in the workplace.
