PresidentJovenel Moise led a ceremony in Port-au-Prince on Friday to mark the eighth anniversary of Haiti's devastating quake, sidelining alleged remarks made by PresidentDonald Trump that reportedly described the Caribbean country as a "shithole". "Africa is great." The president ignored reporters' questions about the alleged vulgarity behind closed door with senators. After reports emerged that the president used the discriminatory, crass language to express his distaste for offering protections to Haitian and El Saldavorian immigrants (as well as immigrants from certain African countries), he faced widespread backlash.
Hillary Clinton, Trump's defeated presidential rival, tweeted: "The anniversary of the devastating quake 8 years ago is a day to remember the tragedy, honor the resilient people of Haiti, & affirm America's commitment to helping our neighbors". But regrettably, it seems that not everyone is committed to negotiating in good faith.
Farris Jr. said that the comments were "another example of him (Trump) speaking without knowing the facts". "He said these hate-filled things, and he said them repeatedly", Durbin added. Senator Durbin, a close associate of Barack Hussein Obama took a "shot" at him accusing President Trump of being a racist. Dick Durbin, said Trump said exactly that. Never said 'take them out.' Made up by Dems. "I think on the immigration issue, when you're making racist comments like that it makes it more hard to come to an agreement on a deal that he can support", the aide said, adding it also raises questions about future negotiations and whether Trump will "play a constructive role".
Trump previously told Haitian-Americans: "I really want to be your greatest champion, and I will be your champion", while he was campaigning previous year in Miami's Little Haiti. "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"
The President on Friday denied using the crass and racist language to describe countries he does not think are worthy of sending immigrants to the U.S.in a series of posts on Twitter.
Former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe tweeted, "SHAME ON TRUMP! Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and U.S. would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime....", Trump tweeted.
But Norwegians and their Scandinavian cousins on Twitter made a decision to mock Mr Trump and America itself instead by asking why they would want to go to a country without free healthcare and rampant gun crime.
Yesterday, no White House spokesperson confirmed or deny the allegations.
