Trump says it "seems unlikely" he'll give Mueller interview

13 January 2018, 05:41 | Erica Roy

"What I did is - I was going to fire Comey, my decision", Trump said at the time.

Previous year when he was asked if he would testify under oath as part of Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the election, Trump said yes "one hundred percent".

Trump's comments are a shift from this past weekend, when he indicated he was open to speaking with Mueller. He called the investigation a "Democrat hoax".

Shortly after CNN published a bombshell report revealing that top U.S. intelligence figures presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him, Trump tweeted on January 10, 2017: "FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!".

Asked whether he would provide that denial under oath to Mueller, Trump told reporters: "100 percent".

"And, as for the part about Russian Federation and the world laughing at our stupidity?"

Answering on the record in such a setting is precarious territory, as former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn can attest, for example.

Pressed again, Trump crossed his arms and said: "When they have no collusion and nobody has found any collusion at any level, it seems unlikely that you'd even have an interview". "We're getting more powerful by the month, by the day", Trump said.

January 2017: The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence announces that it will investigate "Russian intelligence activities" during the election, "including any intelligence regarding links between Russia and individuals associated with political campaigns".

Norway purchased 52 F-35 jets and Trump appeared to "misread a written statement and combine the figure of 52 planes with the F fighter designation", the BBC reported.

In addition to flip-flopping about a Mueller meeting, Trump returned to talking about his former presidential rival Clinton and her exclusive use of a private email server while secretary of state.

Trump's testimony about the Comey and Flynn firings could be key for Mueller's investigation.

While Trump's legal team has repeatedly promised to fully cooperate with Mueller's investigation, multiple recent reports have indicated that they're wavering now that the special counsel has expressed interest in interviewing their notorious truth-averse client. And it's been revealed in the press that Donald Trump Jr. eagerly accepted a meeting in June 2016 on the premise that he would be offered damaging information about Hillary Clinton from a "Russian government attorney". Her staff helped conduct the interview with Simpson, who had also asked for the interview to be released.
