Heavy snow showers and hail to affect North of Scotland communities

A status Orange weather warning is already in place for large parts of Ireland throughout today.

He said: "It happens when you get clear skies and it cools down and you get fog patches forming out of these skies".

Up to 2in of snow could fall at lower levels, with up to 4in predicted in areas above 656ft.

The Met Office has issued a yellow "be aware" warning that states snow showers will be heaviest and most frequent across the Western Isles and Highlands on Monday through to Tuesday.

A woman was spotted pushing a pram on bitterly cold and frosty morning in Aberystwyth, Wales, on Thursday.

Nearly the whole of Northern Ireland, and the west of England, including Liverpool, Manchester, Wolverhampton, Bristol and parts of Devon will also be affected by thick fog.


Light winds will stop mists clearing leaving many parts of the country under a thick pea-soup through much of the day.

"Many parts" of Scotland are predicted to be hit by the wintry conditions at the start of next week, with the snow showers expected to be worst in the west.

The public is being urged to take extra care on roads and pavements.

The national meteorological service say there will be very poor visibility, with fog lingering in many midland area, which will become more extensive and dense this evening and for a time tonight.

"Slower journey times are possible and there is a chance of delays to flights".
