Jim Caldwell's Forecast | The Storm has arrived

The newer models are showing increasing confidence for accumulating snow across at least part of central IN - although it's still a little too far out to talk exact amounts.

The Weather Channel said: "In the East, the heaviest snowfall is expected from the eastern Great Lakes to far northern New England".

A trough of low pressure from the Northwest will settle over the valley Monday, bringing a storm system that will drop inches of rain and snow, said Cory Mueller, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Westbound lanes of the highway were shut down about 4:45 p.m. near Frisco by a traffic crash and poor visibility.

Total snow accumulations of up to an inch and ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are expected. Rain will turn to a rain and snow mix overnight Thursday and into Friday before snow during the day on Friday. Highs significantly colder only topping out in the lower 20s for today.

Thursday night, he explained, the precipitation and cold air will move in from the west. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Hardin County Schools and Elizabethtown Independent Schools will be closed Friday as a winter storm is expected to move into the area.

At the onset, snow likely melts when reaching the ground due to our recent warm spell.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a regionwide winter storm watch, in effect Thursday evening.

Once the storm wraps up early Saturday morning, arctic air locks in for the long haul with highs in the 30s and lower in the teens. He says they are very concerned about ice accumulating on power lines and the high winds causing power outages. Ice and snow accumulations are expected to be higher across northeast OH and northwest Pennsylvania with somewhat higher snow amounts in the snowbelt of northeast OH and northwest Pennsylvania.

Breezy conditions will cause wind chills between 17 and 27 degrees Friday and 11 and 16 Friday night. He also said winds of 30 miles per hour or higher are possible on Friday.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 8. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high of 28 degrees.
