A twelfth season for The X-Files hasn't yet been announced, though the network is probably waiting to see how viewership shakes out before making the commitment. "I think as (series creator) Chris (Carter) has said himself, that short stack of episodes felt like we were learning how to walk again and that this season of 10 feels like the pace is up and we're running".

X-Files executive producers Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan and James Wong were on hand to discuss the 11th season and upcoming episodes, which they wrote and directed. The actress twice confirmed her departure, stating that she has "said from the beginning this is it for me", and that her "understanding was that this [the revival] was a single season".

Anderson also addressed the future of her role in Amazon's American Gods - whose showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green quit after season one - saying that she would not be returning for the second season. Its time for me to hang up Scully's hat, it just is. With this section of the monster-of-the-week Federal Bureau of Investigation show in its second season (eleventh overall), one of its stars is done for good - and has opened up as to why.

"I wouldn't necessarily have been happy if those six were how we said goodbye", she added. "You know, there's always been this may [be] one more thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut, call me up and ask that question again", she noted.

Duchovny left the show after his character was abducted by aliens at the end of season seven; he made intermittent appearances through seasons eight and nine, before returning for the season nine finale.

However, Anderson has said that this is going to be the final outing for the special agent. I'm feeling pretty p*ssed off, now that I remember, ' he joked. But she has become more reflective of Scully, and what the show has meant to her. I am really serious. Some actors get stuck with characters they can take or leave. It's been an extraordinary opportunity, an extraordinary character. There's still no official word on the matter, but Duchovny told reporters he would be "good either way", whether the show continued without Anderson or wrapped up after this season. "It's infectious to my process".
