Dolly Everett: Family and friends to farewell 'beautiful soul'

Hundreds of mourners on Friday attended a memorial service for Amy "Dolly" Everett at a Northern Territory school following her death by suicide which her parents said was a result of cyber bullying.

A sea of blue will envelope friends and family as they remember lovely teen Amy "Dolly" Jayne Everett whose suicide last week has triggered a national call to arms against relentless bullying.

"As a parent and as a grandparent, my heart breaks for Dolly and her family", he wrote on Akubra's Facebook page, using Everett's nickname.

Her father Tick Everett broke the family's silence just four days after Dolly's January 3 death, thanking loved ones for support and condemning bullying.

A social media campaign has also been launched in her name, to raise awareness about bullying and youth suicide.

'Please come to our service and witness the complete devastation you have created, ' Mr Everett wrote on Sunday.

Dolly, who was the face of Akubra hats, has been remembered by her family as the "kindest, caring, attractive soul".

"We are shocked and distressed to hear of the passing of "Dolly", Akubra said in a statement. "Dolly could be anyone's daughter, sister, friend".

"Screamed in sideways and there she was".

Tributes floated in from across the country, including from former prime minister Kevin Rudd. "You either liked her or you loved her, there was nothing in between".

"It is sad. There's probably thousands of kids who've already done this", he said.

Fighting back tears, he described Dolly as "kind, gentle and loving", a "happy go lucky" girl and a "pocket rocket" who loved animals. Turnbull, the prime minister, said society needs to do more to protect young people, although he didn't make any specific suggestions.

His daughter simply "saw the good in the world and the good in everybody she met", Tick said.

The family shared one of her recent drawings - a skinny figure bent over backwards under the words, "speak even if your voice shakes".

'This powerful message tells the dark, scary place our attractive angel had travelled to'.

'Out of all the sadness that the loss of our daughter has brought to our lives, we feel that through losing Dolly we would like to help other families by making an awareness of bullying and harassment that some people are sadly subject to. "We need young people to report it to a trusted adult".
