OR beats Arizona St. 76-72 - Recap, Box score

11-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils, 76-72, on Thursday night, dropping ASU to 1-3 inside of Pac-12 Conference play.

Since that loss to the Sun Devils on January 31, 2014, the Beavers have gone 113-21 overall.

The Ducks dominated the paint, outscoring Arizona State 38-16 inside and scoring 15 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds.

Oregon State got a big rivalry win over Oregon in their last outing, and even though they've had a couple of head-slapping slip-ups recently (Kent State and Utah) they're staying in games even when they lose.

Heading into Pac-12 play, it looked like the Arizona schools would rise to the top of the conference, with the talented Sun Devils (13-2, 1-2 Pac-12) and Wildcats (12-4, 2-1 Pac-12) coming in as the only ranked Pac-12 teams. Sophomore Mikayla Pivec has handled much of the point guard duties, and she hadn't played the position since the seventh grade. While I don't expect the Ducks to win out, a winning streak will go a long way in the decision of where this team will play in March and right now, the Pac-12 is Wide Open. Elijah Brown had 18 points and hit two free throws with 32 seconds left for Oregon. Pritchard put the game on ice with two free throws in the closing moments that put the game out of reach for the Sun Devils.

Guard Kodi Justice scored 21 points and Shannon Evans II added 19 for the Sun Devils (13-3, 1-3). Miller, Alkins and Trier spoke in the postgame press conference after the game, watch what they had to say. Similar to that ranking, Oregon State trails only Florida.

The Sun Devils had 13 total rebounds at the half and OR had 10 alone on the offensive glass, good for a total of 20. "It was choppy. We never really got into a great rhythm on offense".

Tres Tinkle scored 18 points and Stephen Thompson Jr. had 14 for Oregon State, which has won only once in Tucson in the last 35 years (2010).

The Sun Devils don't have an answer physically for players like McIntosh, who kept OR in a game that it, quite frankly, didn't deserve to be in with some of its sloppy plays early on.

After playing its first three Pac-12 games either at home or just down the road in Corvallis, the Ducks hit the road Thursday night and pulled off a major upset - a 76-72 win at No. 11 Arizona State. "They do a really good job".
