Officials report 4 more flu deaths in NC

Montgomery County health officials confirmed a man in his 70s died January 9 due to the flu.

The county's death total continues to rise, with 11 deaths reported this week by public health officials.

Washington sees another flu-related death as Skagit County reports its first this season.

"You may be in contact with someone who has a lower immune system and you can pass it along to that person", Yee said.

Across the country in DE, the Division of Public Health (DPH) says lab-confirmed cases of influenza in DE have increased significantly over the last few weeks.

This week Parkland employees had to set up an outdoor medical tent to help handle the flow of patient visits...and they urging people to go to community clinics rather than the emergency room.

You may have heard that the flu that's doing the most damage this year is an H3N2 strain, and that it is less vulnerable to the vaccine.

Palomar Health Thursday announced that it will distribute its 150 remaining flu shots for free.

Lyndy Stone, Shannon Medical Center's director of marketing, said unlike other areas in Texas or around the US, no deaths have been directly related to the flu in San Angelo.

Ehresmann noted that even in a perfectly matched year, the vaccine will not prevent every case of flu.

Mitchell says the hospital first started to see a spike in flu cases last December.

"Now is the time to get your flu vaccine if you have not already", said Kris Ehresmann, director of infectious disease at the department.

More information on this year's flu activity and vaccine can be found at www.cdc.gov/flu, immunizeelpaso.org or by calling 915-881-1100.

Increased flu activity has been reported in 44 of Alabama's 67 counties, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health's influenza surveillance map.

He said it's impossible to predict how each flu season will pan out.

This means local emergency medical services - including emergency rooms and ambulances - have been stretched to near capacity over the past week. Of the 421 students with flu-like illness, 118 of them were confirmed flu cases.

The flu may not sound like a big deal, but if you've ever had it, you know it can make you feel miserable. Some people get very nauseous and vomit.
