Fans can rejoice that 'Deadpool 2' will now hit theaters May 18 just one week before Lucasfilm's Han Solo movie

Gambit is also being pushed back, moving from 14 February 2019 to 7 June 2019. First up is the highly-anticipated Deadpool 2, which moves up two weeks from June 1 to May 18. However, one industry analyst is going out on a limb to say that there are some very good reasons for the change toDeadpool 2's release date. That being said, Fox's X-Men franchise would benefit greatly from a Kitty Pryde film. The new release date puts Deadpool 2 a week ahead of the Star Wars box office domination that's sure to come with Solo: A Star Wars story, a smart move considering the Star Wars films have proven to have long legs. Deadpool will now return to theaters up against Sony's horror pic Slender Man.

Director Tim Miller is developing the "X-Men" spin-off focusing on female superhero Kitty Pride. Josh Boone's horror-tinged take on The New Mutants is getting a major bump back on the schedule and will now land in theaters 10 months later than originally scheduled.

Alas, Wyatt bailed to be replaced by Doug Liman. who also bailed, to be replaced by Gore Verbinski. who, it is confirmed, has now followed suit. Even so, fans can be forgiven for feeling just a little jittery. If the year leads to a more improved film, then that's great, but I'm still gonna be pretty bummed to see "New Mutants" get pushed so far out.

We made a decision to start from scratch, even though we know some fans will have good arguments for keeping certain Fox actors, and we're basing our casting on the characters' relative comic book ages, to capture the X-Men's golden years.

According to Collider.com, the project was being developed at Fox before studio chiefs signed off on the merger with Disney in December.
