Massive 146-inch TV introduced by tech giant

12 January 2018, 08:27 | Justin Tyler

The diagonal size of this behemoth of a TV is 146 inches. Yet the company keeps investing in microLED TV R&D in parallel, which has the potential for much brighter displays with a higher luminous efficiency, while still offering the pure blacks from OLEDs as it is too a self-emitting technology.

Thus obviously enough "The Wall" is going to cost a true fortune for anyone with enough space to actually fit the damn thing in their home comfortably.

At achieving this latter PR stunt, The Wall succeeds wonderfully.

It claims that Samsung did in fact have a new QLED TV to show to select media in a secret room at its CES 2018 stand and it's said the new TV had black levels to rival OLED TVs.

So what exactly are these other technologies?

"The Wall eliminates the need for color filters or backlight, yet allows the screen to offer consumers the ultimate viewing experience", Samsung said in a statement after the TV's unveiling on January 7.

Hisense unveiled a 150in 4K TV projector system that can beam a picture onto its owner's wall.

We were a underwhelmed by Samsung's press conference at this year's CES. The Wall is possibly the first large television from this or any brand to, supposedly, come equipped with a technology called modular Micro LED, in which LEDs on the display can be lit up individually with colors appearing more vibrant than ever before and with flawless infinite contrast due to a complete lack of backlight technology. For the uninitiated, the pixels on a MicroLED module are significantly smaller than a conventional LED display.

According to Samsung the TV uses what they call MicroLEDs. Perhaps MicroLED can get brighter; Samsung hasn't specified yet.

If you have bought yourself a brand new 4K TV you might regret that by now and we will highly recommend you to stop reading this article forthwith. They say it delivers incredible definition, without restrictions to size, resolution or form.

Another cool feature of the Wall is that it can be customized to even larger sizes.

The Consumer Electronics Show kicks off at the end of this week and we will come again with the last CES news for you.
