Macron in China: Europe must work with China's Silk Road

President Macron urged to raise human rights during China visit
After advocating a new alliance between France, Europe and China, Emmanuel Macron devoted Tuesday the second day of his state visit to China to economic issues, with the expected signing of fifty agreements and contracts, especially on civil nuclear and aeronautics.
After touring Beijing's sprawling Forbidden City, Macron met with Chinese business leaders and held talks with top officials at the imposing Great Hall of the People.
China regularly splits large orders between Europe and the United States to cope with its fast-expanding airline traffic, but the momentum has recently been with rival Boeing, which sold 300 jets during a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump a year ago. Clearly opposing a geopolitical view, Macron made himself the voice of a Europe seeking with China to find a way to get the world back to a win-win multilateralism, criticizing implicitly the "unilateralism" of the U.S. (Jerusalem) and Russia (Ukraine).
Macron's meeting with Liu also included discussion about opportunities for more French brands to reach JD.com's 266.3 million customer base.
"I can entertain myself by giving China lessons while talking to the French media", he said. The two signed several major trade deals during the visit, that included fields such as food, nuclear power and aerospace.
"China supports France to play a bigger role in the integrity of Europe", said Xi.
Macron said he would join Xi's plan to create a trillion-dollar trade and infrastructure network, the One Belt, One Road Initiative across Asia and Europe. Both leaders believe the China-France relations extend far beyond the bilateral scope and will have global significance.
A short video Macron posted on social media went viral among Chinese internet users, who were impressed with the French president's efforts to learn a phrase in their language.
During his campaign, the French leader took a "slightly negative" approach to China by pushing for a European-level investment protection agency, but that development seems to have lost ground, Garcia-Herrero said. "We've never been that close to signing a commercial deal", the official said. "The A380 is the flawless jet for China in 1993", he said.
