Ford Edge Pushes Performance Envelope With New ST

Outside, however, the Edge looks exactly how an ST should. Ford has yet to release any performance figures, however. This engine delivers 335 horsepower and 380lb-ft of torque (20 more horsepower and 30lb-ft more torque than the Edge Sport) to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system. And that includes sportier models like the 2019 Ford Edge ST. But it should handle with loads more poise and panache. It's safe to assume that the Edge ST will be cheaper than speed-merchant SUVs from Porsche, Jaguar Land Rover, Audi, Maserati, and others.

Lower trim levels of the 2019 Edge will introduce a bunch of new safety features to the lineup, including standard post-collision braking, which helps reduce potential secondary impacts after a crash, optional evasive steering assist, which provides steering support in an emergency maneuver and optional adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering. The Blue Oval automaker isn't saying what it'll do, but the Edge Sport could dispatch 0-60 times in about 5.7 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 14.3, and you can expect to see the new Edge ST better those numbers.

The Ford Edge is selling well, and Ford understands what makes it such a hit. Well, it seems they took the old Edge Sport and added more goodies.

Revealed ahead of a public debut at this month's Detroit Motor Show, the titivated Edge isn't actually expected to arrive in the United Kingdom and Europe until 2019, but the reveal gives us a pretty clear idea of what Ford will be offering in the UK's Edge facelift then. More importantly efficiency has additional gains from the switch from a six-speed automatic to an eight-speed gearbox - which is now operated via a new rotary knob, instead of the classic gear lever. The Edge designer Steve Gilmore stated that the ST edition is powered by a 335 horsepower twin turbo V-6 engine, and has been created to look "Sinister". But in the ST the transmission will also get paddle shifters and a Sport mode that alters shift points.

Styling-wise, you'll recognize the Edge ST thanks to the new front end with a wide mesh grille and aggressive bumper, deep side skirts, unique 21-inch wheels, and muscular rear bumper with dual-exhaust outlets. New options include a 12-speaker B&O Play premium audio system by Bang & Olufsen, Qi wireless smartphone charging and remote start.

Where the Edge ST has it exactly right is turning up the wick even further and giving it some extra equipment, although at what cost we don't quite know. Drivers can also upgrade to SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen for enhanced in-vehicle experience.
