The signing is for the remainder of the season and five more until June 30, 2023.

FC Barcelona have signed Colombia defender Yerry Mina from Brazilian club Palmeiras as he was one of the most sought-after defenders that club head coach Ernesto Valverde had his eye on for quite a while.

On Thursday Barcelona have announced their second signing in the January transfer window.

Mina will sign a contract that contains a 100-million-euro termination clause, the Barcelona FC said in a communiqué.

Mina, 23, is known as a physical, yet quick, ball-playing defender.

Barcelona had an agreement with Palmeiras to bring Mina in the middle of this year for about 9 million euros, but agreed to pay extra and advance the deal because of Umtiti's hamstring injury.

He also has nine caps for Colombia and is expected to be part of the squad that travels to Russian Federation in the summer for the World Cup.

Veteran Mascherano is disgruntled at his lack of minutes, as he hopes to earn a place at the World Cup for Argentina, and so is eyeing a move to China, with Hebei Fortune favourites.

The only other Colombian player to wear Barcelona's jersey was forward Lauro Gonzalo Mosquera, but his only appearance came in a friendly in 1964.

Barca continue their pursuit of winning the treble tonight as they face Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey tonight.
