Darrell Bevell Reportedly Fired as Seahawks OC After 7 Seasons with Team

REPORT: Seahawks fire OC Darrell Bevell

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has been fired after seven seasons with the team, ProFootballTalk reported late Tuesday night, citing a source informed of the decision.

The Seahawks missed the playoffs for the first time since Bevell's first season in Seattle.

Bevell is the first Seahawks coordinator to be fired since Jeremy Bates was dumped in 2010.

The Seahawks finished the 2017 regular season 15th in total offense and just 23rd in rushing, a hard fall for a team who has prided itself on a strong run game.

The Seahawks ranked 15th in the National Football League in total offense in 2017 at 330.4 yards per game, but had increasing issues scoring and moving the ball as the season progressed.

A former quarterback at Wisconsin, Bevell came to Seattle in 2011 after serving as the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator for the previous five seasons.

While Bevell's ouster will be celebrated by numerous 12s, that won't necessarily be the case with numerous players.

Bevell acknowledged the difficulties of the season during his final press conference of the year, and likely, with the Seahawks.

"It's a bad memory, " Bevell said in 2016, prior to a rematch between the Seahawks and Patriots.

Head coach Pete Carroll tried to take the heat for the call, but much of the blame was still put on Bevell's shoulders.

The most famous such occasion was at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, when the Seahawks had first-and-goal from the 5, 66 seconds and one timeout to get the game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots.

Seattle was ninth in total offense in that 2014 season and fourth in 2015, which marked the only seasons in the top 10 during Bevell's run.

According to this one report, defensive coordinator Kris Richard will not return to the team.

One possibility is former UW coach Steve Sarkisian, who worked under Carroll at USC from 2001-04 and again from 2006-08, and has been the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons this season after having worked at Alabama in 2016.

Bevell has been calling the plays for the Seahawks offense all throughout Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin's impressive careers.

Another candidate could be USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin, who it was revealed on Tuesday was interviewed to be the head coach of the Raiders.
