Ivanka Trump Praises Oprah's Golden Globes Speech About Sexual Predators

Oprah Winfrey accepts the 2018 Cecil B. DeMille

President Winfrey? No way, says political prognosticator Donald Trump.

The president acknowledged the speculation Tuesday, responding to a question about whether he could beat Winfrey during a bipartisan meeting with senators at the White House.

"I don't think she's going to run", Trump said. "I like Oprah", he added.

Trump has tweeted about Oprah over a dozen times and posted her inspirational messages and quotes.

Beyond her rise from poverty, Winfrey's success as a multidimensional media figure has come from promoting ways for women to assert themselves, typically outside the political arena.

And after some pushing and prodding from her co-anchors, King said she agreed. Her appeal extended well beyond her celebrity, some said, citing her compassion, kindness and devotion to helping others as a badly needed change after Trump.

This isn't the first time Winfrey's presidential run has been shut down.

"I was up talking to her very late last night".

"I absolutely don't think her position has changed, I don't", King said of Winfrey, who has previously denied a desire to run for office.

Trump has also publicly praised her on Twitter, tweeting in 2012 that he "adore [s]" Winfrey and calling her "terrific" in a 2013 tweet.

"Well, I really haven't gotten quite there yet".

"There will be no running for office of any kind for me", Oprah said on CBS This Morning back in October of 2017, flanked by her friend King.

Winfrey gave an impassioned speech Sunday night at the Golden Globes, which has sparked talk about whether she might run for president. "But I don't think she's actively considering it at this time".

Some political operatives think she has what it takes to be a viable presidential contender. "Just saw @Oprah's empowering and inspiring speech at last night's #GoldenGlobes".

"She would be a serious candidate", said Jennifer Palmieri, former White House communications director under President Barack Obama and the communications director for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign.

"Over the years, I've voted for as many Republicans as I have Democrats, so this isn't about partisanship for me, this is very, very personal", she said.
