"HUD remains committed to our state and local partners, to fighting homelessness in Louisiana and throughout the country", said Beth Van Duyne, HUD Regional Administrator.

HUD's 2017 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress found that nationwide more than 550,000 people experienced homelessness on a single night in 2017. Veteran homelessness decreased 9 percent ( or 85 persons ) since January 2016. Since 2010, however, Veteran homelessness in Arkansas declined 46.1 percent.
The annual count found about 300 unaccompanied homeless IN youth and children.
And that work, HUD Secretary Ben Carson said Wednesday, should be aimed at building more housing - especially along the West Coast and in big cities elsewhere. This year, HUD and local communities launched a more intense effort to more accurately account for this important, hard to count population. But it will serve as a baseline to track progress in reducing the number of youth without homes.
