Dexter Fletcher has replaced Bryan Singer as the director of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Dexter Fletcher has been tapped to replace Bryan Singer as the director of Bohemian Rhapsody. He also acted in films such as Kick-Ass and Stardust.

Following Singer's frequent absences and reported unprofessional behavior, 20th Century Fox has confirmed the project will resume shooting next week.

Bohemian Rhapsody is still slated for a December 28th, 2018 release.

With Bryan Singer gone, Fletcher has now stepped in.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" will feature Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek as the legendary Freddie Mercury.

As previously reported, Singer was sacked from the project after failing to show up on the set after Thanksgiving. Yet Singer claimed in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that he was sacked because Fox would not let him take care of a "gravely ill parent". The question now is whether Fletcher is coming on as an emergency surgeon to save the production and patch it all back together or if he'll be allowed to reshape the film beyond Singer's original vision.

Singer denied speculation his exit was down to "a dispute" with lead star Malek - who will play the band's late frontman Mercury in the motion picture - but admitted they did have "creative differences" on set at times. Fletcher's acting credits also include Bugsy Malone, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, The Elephant Man, Muppets Most Wanted and more.

The studio described Singer going AWOL as an "unexpected unavailability", while the director contended that he was dealing with "a personal health matter".

"Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services", he continued.
