IDF strikes Gaza targets after rockets launched at Israel

The IDF said the strikes on Gaza had been carried out with tank fire and from an aerial vehicle.

Palestinians and Israeli troops had skirmished at the border earlier in the day.

The Israeli rocket attacks reportedly landed in the Gaza Strip and on an empty field in southern Israel, injuring no one.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Twitter that at least two missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip, but did not reach the country.

On Thursday, dozens of angry Palestinians clashed with Israeli soldiers at the borderline area between southeast Gaza Strip and Israel.

Rallies, demonstrations and protests dominated the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip against Trump's declaration. On Thursday, Hamas terror group leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new Palestinian intifada, or uprising. The protesters burned American and Israeli flags, as well as photos of Trump.

He added that armed resistance factions in Palestine have received clear orders to be ready to counter this strategic threat, which endangers occupied Jerusalem and its future.

Protests broke out in Gaza and the West Bank and Jerusalem after US President Donald Trump chose to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

United States President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday during a televised speech from the White House.
