The Detroit Red Wings will compete for bragging rights on Friday, Dec. 8, to see which group can raise the most money for The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit's Red Kettle Campaign, as four teams bell ring at different Metro Detroit retail locations from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Fans are asked to make a $10 donation per autograph at all four locations.
Audrey Jenning, a Red Kettle bell ringer at South Belt Walmart, said donations at her kettle have been steady since she started about a week ago.
Outside of the Sam's Club on Hanes Mall Blvd., you'll find Earl Baldwin sitting in his wheelchair, ringing his bell, and giving a kind word to anyone who walks past him. "We know that we have some people that are suddenly in need, so we know this is a really hard time for them to come", said Bryant.
The Corp Commander says this is needed more than ever with their Red Kettle Campaign numbers down.
It's a job he takes a lot of pride in. "People can call me until December 24 to make a donation and I would be happy with assisting them with it".
"The service has been created to meet the humanitarian need of people that are experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year and to provide personalised support to help individuals on their unique journey from street to home".
Baldwin suffered a stroke in 2006 and has been in a wheelchair ever since.
