Prince Charles honors Ed Sheeran

London [U.K.], December 8 (ANI): It's definitely a good year for Ed Sheeran as the two-time Grammy victor has recently been honoured with the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for a glittering musical career and charity work by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

You might think that Ed Sheeran's life is spent decking the halls, appearing on Game of Thrones and getting into unusual accidents: Not so!

The 26-year-old was named in Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honours list in June last year (16) but waited until now to pick up his medal at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London.

As he picked up his honour, Ed said he would be happy to play the first song at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding reception.

"My grandfather...he died on this day four years ago, so it's actually quite a nice full circle thing", Sheeran said, according to Clarence House.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire rewards contributions to the arts and sciences.

Comedian Tony Hawks was also recognised during the investiture ceremony and was awarded an MBE for his charity work in Moldova where he has opened a children's centre to help youngsters with chronic conditions.

At the end, Ed had a brief conversation with Prince Charles and told him that he was travelling to NY tomorrow for another gig.

Sheeran said his secret to his success was persistence.

'I think talent is like 30% of it and persistence, drive and self belief are the other ones, which I guess are all the same thing'.

"My grandfather was a massive royalist".
