Arizona Rep. Trent Franks is resigning from Congress

Arizona Rep. Trent Franks expected to announce resignation
Franks said he expected to make a statement Thursday.
Frank's northwest Phoenix suburb is reliably Republican, having gone to Trump and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, both of whom won the district by more than 20 percentage points, and Franks easily won re-election a year ago.
Franks' statement is expected to come Thursday night. Al Franken's high-profile resignation earlier on Thursday.
Conyers denied the allegations, while Franken said some of the accusations against him were untrue and he remembered other incidents differently from his accusers. He said he'd depart in a few weeks. He sought to clarify the comment, saying later-term abortions linked to pregnancies caused by rape are infrequent.
Frank's 8th District in Arizona backed President Donald Trump by 21 points in 2016.
There is no word on who could replace Franks at this time.
Before winning election to Congress, he served in the Arizona legislature and founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, an organization associated with Dr. James Dobson's "Focus on the Family".
"As he walked past reporters outside the floor of the House of Representatives, Franks said: "I'll let the statement speak for itself". The institute advocates for policies created to protect children and families.
