Square Enix Officially Announces Third Tomb Raider Game

New Tomb Raider game will be Lara Croft's defining adventure in 2018

Through the official Tomb Raider account on Twitter, Square Enix confirmed that a new Tomb Raider installment is on the way. That's pretty much the extent of it though.

Square Enix claimed that its journey will begin with a major event in 2018. Of course, just because Square Enix is playing coy doesn't mean we don't have some insight about the title. Honestly, we wish we could share it with you right now, but we're taking a new approach this time.

The move is part of an effort to "put fans first", as they await the official reveal of what they call Lara's "defining adventure".


Either way, be on the look out in 2018 for when Square Enix decides to officially unveil the new Tomb Raider game. Check out the first letters of each sentence in the Tweet below - they spell out Shadow.

While there are plenty of big gaming events that the statement could be hinting at, everything points to the release of the affirmation upcoming film remake Tomb Raider. For many months now, it's been rumored that the game's title will be Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with some fans believing an announcement was imminent.
