First lady Melania Trump visits Harvey responders, dines at Whataburger
Abbott expressed her thanks to the First and Second ladies for making the trip and for commitment to hurricane recovery efforts in Texas. But before she left, she stopped by Whataburger to partake in a Texas tradition - Whataburger. They also visited the family's new Manufactured Housing Unit, provided by FEMA, which will serve as the family's temporary residence until they can move into a new, rebuilt home.
"The effects of the hurricane season are still being felt throughout southern portions of the United States and in Puerto Rico, and residents still need our help", said First Lady Melania Trump in a statement provided by The White House.
After spending time for a photo opportunity, the women were transported via motorcade to Rockport, where many families lost their homes when the hurricane hit on August 25.
Trump and Pence also bought lunch for the press pool traveling with them. "You serve as a reminder to all of us that the best gifts are those of family and friends, love and kindness".
Trump and Pence are also expected to make a trip to Charlie Marshall Elementary School in Aransas Pass to speak with students and faculty who were affected by the storm. They all visited the children during two separate classes.
Trump and Pence were scheduled to stop next at the Coastal Bend Food Bank. She worked alongside retired Army Major Warren Phipps who had been volunteering since the early days after the storm.
