"He has demonstrated that he should never again have access to children", Neff said according to the Lansing State Journal. Federal Judge Janet Neff followed the government's recommended sentence Thursday.

Nassar's attorneys had asked the federal judge for leniency in court filings, arguing Nassar had helped fellow inmates and taken Bible classes since his arrest almost a year ago, the State Journal said.

In court filings last week, Nassar's attorneys had asked Neff to show leniency, saying the doctor had worked toward redemption by helping fellow inmates and taking Bible classes since his arrest almost a year ago.

Federal prosecutors are seeking a 60-year sentence.

Nassar pleaded guilty in July to three federal charges after investigators said he possessed at least 37,000 graphic videos and images of child pornography, including images of prepubescent children engaged in sex acts.

Larry Nassar is due back in federal court in Grand Rapids today for sentencing for possession of child pornography.

"Underneath this veneer lurked a predator", Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Lewis said.

Nassar has previously pleaded guilty to using his position to sexually assault girls and young women.

Some of the Maroneys' most cutting words went to Team USA and Michigan State, which previously employed Nassar.

The criminal cases against Nassar followed reports previous year in The Indianapolis Star about how USA Gymnastics mishandled complaints about sexual misconduct involving the doctor and coaches.

Nassar is also set to be sentenced in January in two MI courts after pleading guilty to additional counts of criminal sexual conduct related to allegations he assaulted girls under the guise of medical treatment.

Aside from the criminal cases, more than 100 women and girls are suing Nassar.

Larry Nassar worked at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.

Nassar, led in cuffs out of the courtroom at the Gerald R. Ford Federal Building in downtown Grand Rapids on Thursday, was for decades an esteemed sports medicine doctor.

"It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and it happened before I won my silver medal", McKayla wrote, describing the times she says Nassar sexually assaulted her during the 2012 London Olympics.

He started working at MSU, his alma mater, in 1997.

After police began their investigation, the Indianapolis Star published Denhollander's story, and MSU fired Nassar soon after in September 2016. Earlier this year, Steve Penny resigned as chief executive of USA Gymnastics after acknowledging he had waited five weeks to report Nassar to law enforcement in 2015, and Michigan State gymnastics coach Kathie Klages retired after the university suspended her for defending Nassar in a private meeting with her gymnasts. At those hearings in Ingham and Eaton counties, Nassar's victims-all of them, not just the ones the specific charges pertain to-will be allowed to read impact statements.

Olympians Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas say they were victims when Nassar worked for USA Gymnastics and accompanied them at workouts or global events. 'More safe than the President of the United States of America, ' he said to him.
