The multiple wildfires in Southern California were spreading so fast in part due to what officials called the strongest Santa Ana winds of the season. The fire broke out near the 405 Freeway and Mulholland Drive just before 5 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. It's unclear if the fire is burning the vineyard or the house as well.

There are no reports of injuries, but the flames are dangerously close to the Getty Center and buildings nearby.

As of Tuesday night, at least 30 homes were destroyed, about 20 of them in the Little Tujunga, Kagel Canyon and Lopez Canyon areas. "Residents of Mandeville Canyon and Sullivan Canyon should be prepared for evacuation the department said".

Los Angeles Mission College's Main Campus at 13356 Eldridge Ave. and the East Campus at 12890 Harding St., both in Sylmar, were closed for the day, but there was no immediate word if classes would resume today. Firefighting crews set up on the southbound side of the 405 to prevent the fire from jumping the freeway, and northbound vehicles were being turned back. These closures are causing massive gridlock in what is already one of the city's most congested intersections. The 101 remains open, but authorities warned drivers to be cautious traveling through the area. At least 1,000 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
