Amazon Prime Video now available on Apple TV in around 100 countries

But now things have escalated and Google has blocked YouTube access on all Amazon Fire TV products as well as the company's Amazon Echo Show.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook had said in June that Amazon's streaming service would be available for Apple devices later this year. That includes Google's Chromecast streaming device, an alternative to Fire TV, and an internet-connected speaker called Home, which is trying to catch up to Amazon's market-leading Echo.

Amazon's Echo line is a real threat to Google's core search business.

Streaming devices allow people to use apps like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and Amazon Prime on their TV.

Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Amazon and Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc, square off in many areas, from cloud computing and online search, to selling voice-controlled gadgets like the Google Home and Amazon Echo Show. It also can be watched on a Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire tablets.

The dispute between Amazon and Google mirrors the face-offs that occasionally crop up between pay-TV providers and TV networks when it comes time to re-negotiate their deals. They say Amazon is not playing fair with Google. One of the first signs that the companies were at odds came when Amazon redesigned Google's Android mobile software for its Kindle tablets. Amazon had explained the move by saying it wanted to avoid confusing customers who might expect its Prime Video service to be available on devices sold by Amazon.

The exact cause of the bad blood between the two companies has never been confirmed but many speculate the similarity between the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV devices is the main reason.

Amazon Prime Video is available now on Apple TV for free.

Once you've downloaded the Amazon Prime Video app it will be relatively easy for you to get it up and running as you control the content you put on screen through the Apple TV App or Siri Remote.

Roku's market-leading streaming players are sold through Amazon.

Previously you could only play Prime Video on your Apple TV through a wireless connection to Airplay from an iPhone or iPad.
