Lena Dunham arrives at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards at Neue House Hollywood in Los Angeles on Nov. 14 2016
Even so, people spoke candidly about his alleged behavior prior to his public downfall: Lena Dunham, for example, told the Times that when she got involved with the Clinton presidential campaign a year ago, she tried to warn staffers that Weinstein's proximity-including his presence at campaign events and fund-raising dinners he hosted-was potentially damaging, because she had heard stories about his alleged misconduct toward women.
Clinton was friendly with Weinstein in the past, as he'd donated money to several Clinton campaigns and hosted several star-studded fundraisers for those campaigns as well.
"I just want you to let you know that Harvey's a rapist and this is going to come out at some point", actress and writer Lena Dunham reports telling Kristina Schake, the Clinton campaign's deputy communications director, in 2016.
"I think it's a really bad idea for him to host fund-raisers and be involved because it's an open secret in Hollywood that he has a problem with sexual assault", the actress said she added.
Weinstein is the subject of criminal cases in New York, London and Los Angeles.
The latest report details the alleged "complicity machine" surrounding Weinstein which enabled him to keep his alleged behaviour under wraps for years.
Based on stories she had heard about Weinstein's "sleaziness with women", Brown said she also warned Clinton's inner circle about him back in 2008. Noting that their accounts are backed up by text messages, the Times reports two women say Weinstein invited them to his hotel room at the Toronto Film Festival in September, made "massage requests, other unwelcome advances and offers of career help", then told them not to speak of the encounter.
Dunham said that Schake promised to take the information to Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook. In March 2016, Dunham said she warned the campaign. "No one should have to endure what Ms. Rehal experienced at the hands of Harvey Weinstein". It's despicable behavior, and the women that have come forward have shown enormous courage.
The Times report claims that Weinstein had a network of enablers who assisted him in covering up allegations of sexual abuse, including agents, personal assistants and tabloid journalists. As to claims about a warning, that's something staff wouldn't forget...
Weinstein's legal team reportedly worked to undermine the model around the same time that the producer struck a business deal for a talk show with American Media and Dylan Howard, The Enquirer's editor and the company's chief content officer.
The Times said that Hillary and Bill Clinton dined with Weinstein and his attorney and trusted advisor David Boies at a restaurant in Harlem days after Clinton's loss in the election.
