Delhi Government Lifts All Exemptions Under Odd-Even Scheme

Pollution

The Delhi government sought more time on the contention that its Chief Secretary and environment secretary were recently changed and the new officers needed to settle down to finalize the plan. What can we do if you keep on changing everybody? Still, you took no action. Yesterday, Sri Lankan cricketers took to the field here wearing anti-pollution masks.

On December 1, air pollution in Delhi rose and returned to levels recorded immediately after the severe smog episode in November, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) data. You should have not held the match if the air quality was so bad.

It referred to the India-Sri Lanka match, which stalled on Sunday due to air pollution, and said, "Look at people abandoning matches. You can not subject people to this".

"Situation is getting from poor to worst, children are suffering and the Delhi Govt has not even filed its action plan".

"You all (states) tell us what steps you will take at what level of pollution".

On November 28, the NGT had asked the Delhi government along with governments of four neighbouring states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to submit their plan before December 4.

Also, NGT had given the 48 hours time to Delhi government to submit its report against the Delhi air pollution action plan.

The play, however, continued uninterrupted on Monday even as indicators showed pollution levels rising to "hazardous" levels.

The natural factors compounded the pollution which has other sources such as thermal power plant emissions, vehicular exhaust fumes and construction dust, which ensure poor air quality across the Indo-Gangetic belt throughout winter.

It had earlier directed the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and every state pollution control boards to file ambient air quality analysis before the tribunal on a monthly basis and also put up on their websites to enable the concerned authority to take effective steps to control air pollution.

"You want exemptions for two-wheelers but you don't apply your mind that these 60 lakh vehicles cause the maximum pollution", the court said.
