A 23-year-old woman fashion designer was allegedly harassed by an Ola cab driver on Sunday night who tried holding her hostage inside the cab by activating the child lock.
The victim, who is a fashion stylist, said the driver had engaged the child lock to trap the woman in his vehicle.
Asserting that customers' safety is its priority, Ola also asked the customer to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities.
The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Sunday, in a deserted spot on the Ring Road in south east Bengaluru. It was when the vehicle reached the Intermediate Ring Road that the driver allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, while she was in the backseat of the auto. The cab driver who is identified as Rajashekhar Reddy stopped the auto when he found a lonely spot on the Intermediate Ring Road on the way to Koramangala.
She added that after few minutes of the incident she called up the Ola customer care service and lodged a complaint.
A police officer is said to have spoken to Reddy, who defended himself saying that he had only tried to reach back to help her open the door which was child-locked. "We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during her ride".
She then started banging on the auto windows, after which he let her out.
"I had to run for more than five minutes to find another vehicle to go home".
The woman, however, alleged that Ola did not inform her about the action it took against the driver. "We have suspended the driver and extend full support to this investigation against the said driver".
Now is the high time the firm owners take stringent actions against the perpetrators since this issue has now become a cause of concern and safety of passengers.
