Low risk of winter weather in NC Friday night

It will be cold by Thursday morning with morning lows dropping to the upper 30s with a cloudy and chilly afternoon in the lower 50s.

Today is the day that will lead to a big December pattern change for Central PA with winter-like temperatures moving in and sticking around for a good part of the month. Light snow showers should also be anticipated today.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The pattern continues to favor below-average temperatures for at least the next 15 days; for now, most of next week looks dry. Friday will likely be colder.

Since the front will move through early in the day, temperatures will be falling past morning.

Heavy rain Threat

Winds are blustery but late morning, and strongest later tonight, with wind gust up to 40-50mph. Temperatures will be in the 50s with an increasing southerly wind and gusts up to 35 miles per hour (highest eastern CT). With three-quarters of an inch of rain projected, roadway flooding should be minimal. Winds will be gusty at times Wednesday. Any rain ends early Wednesday (4-7AM), and colder weather moves in on a west-northwest wind Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. So we're due. A cold front will approach the area this afternoon and allow a line of showers and storms to develop. So there's a chance of some rain and snow in the Tuesday forecast to account for this possibility, although remember no major storms are in sight. A few lingering showers are possible to the southeast, but it should stay dry in DFW.

It's a much milder and less foggy start to our Tuesday, as mostly cloudy skies and a southerly breeze combined to keep temperatures up in the 40s Monday night. Wednesday afternoon will be chilly in the lower 50s. Lows will be in the 20s, and highs will just make it into the lower to middle 40s despite sunshine on Sunday. High temperatures will be in the upper 40s, and there will be small chance for rain Friday.

1/10 (→): Still low chances, but activity Friday night, at times this weekend, and maybe toward Tuesday of next week are worth watching.
