Unlocked iPhone X Now Available On Apple's US Online Store

An unlocked SIM-free iPhone is attractive for travelers who might want to use their iPhone overseas with a local SIM card. Better yet, Apple is finally selling a SIM-free iPhone X online, which means you no longer have to choose your carrier at checkout either.

The prices are the same as what you'll pay from the carriers themselves: $999 for a 64GB model, and $1,149 for a 256GB one.

This option is ideal for business travelers who don't want to stick with a wireless carrier and who might want to pop in a SIM card from another carrier, such as an worldwide one during a trip. The SIM-free iPhone sold on apple.com and at the Apple Store is unlocked.

The threat of backorders and shipping delays have dogged the iPhone X since before the phone even launched.

Apple has basically been offering this option as of late November when it started allowing customers to buy the iPhone X unlocked and unactivated. If you chose to skip carrier activation at the time of purchase, you'll need to insert an active SIM card or contact a carrier to set up an account.

Online orders for an unlocked iPhone X are delivering on December 13th-about a week out.

Prior to this week, iPhone X purchases were locked to specific carriers.
