HMD Global To Launch Nokia 9, Nokia 8 (2018) On January 19

05 December 2017, 10:16 | Jodi Jackson

It doesn't look like the Nokia 9 would have a full-screen display, however, the second gen Nokia 8 has been tipped to have an 18:9 aspect ratio screen.

Though the company confirmed that all the Nokia smartphones launched this year including Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will receive the Android Oreo update, the users of the entry-level Nokia 3 did not receive the Android 7.1.2 Nougat or the Android Oreo updates. The timing of the Nokia 9 announcement is very interesting because on January 19, 2017, the Nokia 6, which was first Nokia-branded Android phone from HMD Global, has gone on sale in the Chinese market. Now, it has been confirmed that Nokia 3 will skip Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and it will directly receive Oreo update instead.

Both the devices will arrive with custom software tailored specifically for the Chinese market, indicating Google Play services will be replaced by a local offering. Nokia 9 has also leaked in images which shows the phone to come in three colour variants - black, blue and silver.

Chances are that the Nokia 9 will be launched in two variants, one with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage while the other version of the phone may have 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

A report on news.mydriver has indicated that the Nokia 9 has a 2K display with a 5.5-inch screen.

Alleged Nokia 9 render. The high-end variant with 128GB storage will be priced at CNY 4,199 (roughly Rs 40,826).

The normal cost of Nokia 9 6GB/64GB model is $560, while the other 6GB/128GB variation will cost you $635. Now coming to Nokia 8 (2018), there is no specific report on how much may HMD global price the phone - but chances are that it may come with nearly the similar price as the Nokia 8. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and include dual camera setup, 6GB of RAM, a fingerprint sensor and IP67 water/ dust resistance. The upcoming next-generation smartphone is in the news again after a lull and reports claim that it would see the light of day in January 2018.
