Google Maps introduces new Motorcycle mode in India

Google Maps Gets Motorcycle Mode in India Showing Navigation Routes for Two Wheelers

Google Go is light on storage and data and works efficiently on patchy connections.

Despite the growing prevalence of smartphones, hundreds of millions of people still use feature phones, which don't run Android, but do feature internet connectivity.

Tez has almost 12 million active users, the company said.

Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones also come with a version of the Google Play Store which will highlight low-resource oriented apps suited for the device. Apps like Google Go, Files Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go and more are very lightweight and optimized to save data - Google claims that users can save up to 40% data in Google Go compared to the full version of the app.

The company announced "Files Go", a new app that helps free up space, find files faster and share files offline with people nearby.

"More than 70 billers will be supported, including utilities and direct-to-home service providers, on Tez", Sengupta told reporters here. Google Tez, starting today supports bill payments directly from the Google Tez application itself.

The tez app will also give you notifications to remind you to pay your bill.

Citing NPCI data, Sengupta said that in October-November period, Tez accounted for 70 per cent of transactions on BHIM UPI. There are more than 525,000 merchants already on Tez.

The "two-wheeler" mode will help bikers find the fastest route for their destination. Now when you choose to get directions for a destination, Maps also shows you a "two-wheeler" mode along with vehicle, public transportation and walking.

And it makes sense: India is the world's biggest two-wheeler market, where motorbikes still outsell cars by seven to one. The two-wheeler mode will arrive in more countries later.

At the Google for India event, the search giant announced that its AI-based search assistant will be available exclusively on Reliance JioPhone and other entry-level smartphones. After its announcement and launch in May 2016, this is the first time that the tool comes to a feature phone.

Sengupta said a special version of the Google Assistant - in both English and Hindi - has been developed for Reliance Jio phones.
